Published on 07/02/2017

Once you read the title, “Identical Triplets Take DNA Test Just To Discover The Worrying Truth”, you almost immediately need to know more. However in this case, we need to start from the start. The Dahm triplets were born in a small town then just as quickly, they found themselves in Hollywood, and now a simple day in March 2017 has forever changed their lives.

The Dahm Triplets

Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn were born December 12th, 1977. And yes, you guessed it, they’re identical triplets. Complete with blonde hair and blue eyes even.

Tell Me Apart

When they were babies, their parents needed an easier way to tell them apart. Come on, how often do parents wind up with three daughters that look exactly alike? So mom and dad went ahead and tattooed little black ink dots on their buttocks! As a result, Nicole has one dot, Erica has two, and Jaclyn has none.

Small Town

Now, Jordan, Minnesota is an insanely small town but that’s home to the Dahm Triplets. Of course everyone in the town knew just who they were, considering that one, the population of Jordan is some 5,000. And two, identical triplets isn’t that common, not even for a small town.

You Three

Now Nicole previously said in an interview with Playboy magazine, “We rarely hold our own identity. We were always known as ‘You three’ or ‘The Triplets.’” Complete with matching outfits and all the same friends, the Dahm Triplets did literally everything together. There was no room for arguments, instead they remain super close.

Downside

Turns out that they are indeed downsides when you’re a triplet, somehow. Jaclyn said, “Privacy is not easy to find. Growing up, we shared everything, even a bedroom. And people always ask, “Which one are you?”

Teen Models

When the Dahm Triplets were just 16, they won the Great Model Search and graced the cover of ‘Teen Magazine’. Blonde, blue eyes, and all times three, yeah we get it.

Nurses

Now the Dahm Triplets never wanted to be models, in fact they were enrolled at the University of Minnesota’s nursing program. Their ambition was to even work at the same hospital! One day, while at campus, they noticed an advertisement for Playboy. You see, Playboy were on the search for models to feature in their new “Girls of the Big Ten Special Edition.” Which Minnesota is a part of, clearly.

Daddy Says

Although, here’s the kicker, it was the Dahm Triplet’s father who urged his daughters to try out for the photo-shoot! I mean, why not, right? (While, we can personally think of a few, it’s just our opinion at the end of the day).

Test Shoot

Never did Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn think that their lives would change as they from that day on. For the test shoot, the Triplets striped down and thus became the second set of triplets to feature in an United States edition of Playboy.

Never Ever

Ahem, it was a pretty big deal for the Triplets to decide to strip down for Playboy, furthermore the decision was not taken lightly. During a 1998 interview with Playboy, Jaclyn said they “would never have done this (modeled for Playboy) as individuals.” In addition, the Dahm Triplets never imagined a modeling career was on the verge was blossoming.

Upside

With every downside, there is an upside. Especially when you’re a set of triplets. Jaclyn has gone on to say, “We each can tell what the other two are thinking without their saying anything.” It’s Erica that believes the three can also create an instant party whenever together. Not bad at all!

Yes, You

Of course the Dahm Triplets were named “Playboy Playmate of the Month” way back in December 1998. A privilege many of us will never know.

Entertainment World

After Playboy, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn received many new opportunities. Erica has repeatedly said that Playboy dramatically changed all of their lives, but that she “wouldn’t change anything for the world and it was an ‘amazing experience.” As a result, the Dahm Triplets dropped out of nursing school and pursued careers in the world of entertainment.

In 2014, The Dahm Triplets sat down for an interview with Playboy, and they were asked a simple question. “Do you create a frenzy whenever you go somewhere?” Nicole then replies with a bit of a surprising answer, “If we do, we don’t notice it.” Jaclyn adds, “We try to fade into the background. We’re actually quiet and kind of shy.” Interesting, no?

Triple Tattoo

That’s right, the Dahm Triplets have a tattoo located on the inside of their wrist, symbolizing the three of them, their relationship. Nicole explains that their tattoos indeed symbolize, “We came from one egg that was split into three. We wanted to symbolize how close we are.”

Lover Boy

After the triplets won an episode of House Wars, they went on to start on the reality series, Renovate My Family. Jay McGraw is the host of the show and he’s also Dr. Phil’s son. Here’s the cute bit, he fell hard for Erica and she has gone on to say that, “it was love at first sight.” AWW.

The Doctors

So the producer of The Doctors, and one of them is Jay McGraw mind you, had the triplets appear on the show many times. Each time, the three would speak about many different things like female fertility and pregnancy issues. Now of course, the audience really loved them, which lead to the producers to come up with a rather interesting idea for an episode.

Baby Bump

However before they could pitch this genius idea to the Dahm Triplets, the three revealed that they were pregnant. At the same time! A total medical phenomenon, as they all were pregnant with daughters as well. In the year of 2010, Nicole gave birth in January, Erica in March, and Jaclyn in February. **Mind blown**

Jaclyn once told Playboy that their pregnancies were a sort of triplet thing, “it must be that triplet bond.” She continued on to say that all of them were lucky and fortunate, no one can dispute that either. It wasn’t until March 2017 that the producers ofThe Doctors phoned them up to discuss this intriguing idea from 2010.

Idea Gets Pitched

Lisa Guerrero, a journalist from Inside Edition, wanted to explore if DNA and ancestry tests were reliable sources. As they had the opportunity to test the theory on identical triplets, it was a pretty extraordinary opportunity. Although no was prepared for what was about to come.

Idea Gets Pitched

Popular

Quite recently, these at-home DNA and ancestry tests have become popular. People just want to know where they come from and who they are. 23andMe and Ancestry are just two popular companies that offer people the opportunity to learn more about themselves. Furthermore, these DNA tests can be done at home and are also reasonably priced.

Done!

So the DNA test obviously requires saliva, therefore these programs send a kit to you via the post office. Essentially, these companies decode your DNA to find out more about your heritage, sometimes they can even track down “long lost relatives”. Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn provided their saliva samples, shipped it out, and waited.

Waiting Game

A couple weeks passed and the DNA test results were done. Seeing as how the Dahm triplets are identical, it’s assumed that they would all have identical DNA too. But Lisa Guerrero, the journalist from Inside Edition, was very skeptical about the results that these at-home test kits produce. She couldn’t wait for the results to be revealed live on The Doctors.

No Surprise There

As the first results were revealed, well no one was actually surprised, not the triplets nor the viewers. Yup, the DNA test did reveal that all three triplets were identical. Furthermore, the triplets even said themselves that they have very similar fingerprints – for instance Erica can open Nicole’s safe because their fingerprints are practically identical.

The Story Changes

Now its onto the second test to uncover the triplets ancestry, their ethnicity essentially. However no one was prepared for the results. Absolutely no one.

The Stroy Changes

The Story Changes

Gets Weirder

At first, the second test shows that the triplets all 99% European. That’s expected of course. But when they start to break down the data more, things really get surprising. Erica is actually 16% Irish and British, while Nicole is 2% MORE Irish and British. As the results continue to pour in, the Dahm Triplets, the doctors, and the audience are utterly confused.

Gets Weirder

Gets Weirder

Wait, What?

That’s when the test reveals that the three DO NOT actually have the same percentage of French and German heritage; Nicole has 11%, Jaclyn has 18%, and Erica has 22.3%. Just how could identical triplets have such different results? It didn’t make sense, especially when the next bit of data was revealed.

Wait What

Doesn’t Add Up

When the Scandinavian results are revealed, the discrepancies are ridiculous. So it turns out that Erica and Jaclyn have the exact same percentage of 7.4%, but it is Nicole’s number that is mind boggling. The test shows Nicole is 11.4% Scandinavian, 4% more than her sisters. Astonishing!

Questions

Not surprisingly, the Dahm Triplets could barely mask their reactions as it just didn’t add up. Nicole can’t wrap her head around the data as they came from the same egg, are identical, so why don’t the numbers add up? Dr. Travis Stork, the host of The Doctors, pitches in and admits that home-tests like this are primarily an “entertainment” base and aren’t actually used to prove real evidence of one’s heritage. Hmm.

Dr. Stork also goes on to say that these mailed in tests won’t actually be anywhere close to 100% accurate either. Moreover, you should really expect discrepancies, no matter what the circumstance is. Furthermore, he says, “you can’t just spit in a cup and have every single answer that you are looking for.”

Interesting

Originally Lisa Guerrero was very skeptical of at-home tests so with the knowledge of the results from the show, she was rather curious to take the test herself. She goes on to admit that while the tests aren’t advanced, they do however offer an interesting perspective into one’s own DNA, genetics, and ancestry.

Moving On

Lisa goes on to say that will probably pay more to visit a doctor in order to get “real” results. At the end of the day, it is human nature to want to learn more, especially about yourself.

Awareness

While the triplets never thought to receive such results, they are proud to have raised awareness on at-home DNA tests. Since then, their lives have changed but then again, they were always meant for more than just a small town.

When Jay McGraw appeared on an episode of Dr. Phil, he let us in on just how he popped the question. He flew Erica to Dallas, Texas, plopped down on one knee and “asked her to spend the rest of her life with me.” How flippin’ adorable! Did we mention that the ring is a five-carat platinum, with diamonds and two green emeralds? Yeahhhhh.

Erica’s sisters were of course bridesmaids, who even had their dresses designed by Bradley Bayou! Erica still stole the show with a breath taking Chado Ralph Rucci gown, which was even designed specifically just for her.

Dr. Phil really adores and loves his grandchildren so much, but he also has a soft spot for Erica. Actually, we should mention he was THE best man to Jay at their wedding. Jay once said that he really believes his parents “love her [Erica] almost as much as I do.” Cute!

Nicole told her husband, after they had their second baby, “I feel like my brain cells are turning to mush. All I do is baby talk and play on the floor.” As her husband owns tons of real estate right in downtown San Diego, he pushed her to go ahead and launch her own restaurant! That’s exactly what she did, in 2013 she opened “Lucky Bastard Saloon”.
