Homeowners featured on the show have already purchased the house, even before the film started! This means that the choice of houses at the beginning of each episode is all staged. All the furniture and decorations picked and designed by Joanna are also not part of the budget, so they don’t keep these things unless they want to pay for them. The entire house is also not renovated. Chip has never seen to work on the house unless it’s taping day.
