It is not a secret that Willie Nelson has a relationship with weed, so it’s not surprising how far he’s willing to go in order to keep the devil’s lettuce safe. Back in 1969, a couple of years prior to Willie Nelson reaching stardom, his residence caught on fire and his friend called to tell him, so Nelson quickly went home and went into the fire not to save his belongings, but to get the weed he had before firefighters could see it. He said about his actions, “I wasn’t being brave running in the fire to get my dope…I was trying to keep the firemen from finding it and turning me over to the police.” He succeeded in saving his guitar and the marijuana but many of his demo tapes did not make it.
