Brigitte Bardot
Even though she started out as a dancer, Brigitte Bardot decided to give acting a shot during the ‘50s. She appeared in the controversial film by Robert Vadim called And God Create Women. This launched her to fame in the year 1956. An American critic said she is “undeniably a creation of superlative craftsmanship.” Her entrance onto the international stage in a conservative era had been so palpable that Simone de Beauvoir penned a feminist essay called Brigitte Bardot and The Lolita Syndrome. She later started working as an animal rights activist, although she has also been fined for inciting racial hatred on five separate occasions.
