At the time, not a lot of people were familiar with anorexia. The time of diagnosis was a difficult period for Karen. She had to undergo therapy and entered rehabilitation where she was forced to eat something. She lost more than 25 pounds in a single month when she was only drinking water and eating very little food.

The duo’s fame held burdens, that much was obvious. At the height of their career, the duo was under a lot of stress. Karen was dieting excessively to catch up with the shows. In 1975, her illness became so severe and the pair had to cancel shows in Japan, the Philippines, and the UK.
