Niihau island is in Hawaii, and most have heard about it because the residents there do not pay any rent. Yes, this is a rent-free island, but don’t go packing your bags just yet. Back in 1864, the Kingdom of Hawaii’s Robinson family bought the island, and they haven’t allowed outsiders on the island since. Only native Hawaiians live there without modern conveniences like telephones, running water, roads, cars or even stores. However, they receive some boat deliveries from neighboring islands.

Since the late 1800s, they maintained secrecy around the recipe and now, the written copy is kept in a vault in Atlanta. Although people can see the first vault, there’s a second vault with the actual original papers! The company has kept their tradition all these years, granting permission to only two employees to access them. Obviously, they choose two in case on passes away, and in that case, the second would choose another successor in the company.

The Icelandic island of Surtsey is decreasing in size due to a four-year volcanic eruption during the 1960’s. That eruption shrunk the island from 2.7 km to less than half that size. According to scientists, the only people allowed on the island, the remaining island will fall under sea level around 2100.

In Disneyworld within Cinderella’s Castle is her castle suite. This is one of the most exclusive Disney locations. Apparently, it was constructed for the Disney Family themselves, but now, it’s been renovated and is used as a hotel. However, this suite is invite-only, so essentially reserved for very rich and famous people. Within the gray stone castle was, there’s a true fairytale experience awaiting with hardwood paneling and marble inlaid floor with a pumpkin coach design.

This Ukrainian city got evacuated back in 1986 due to the nuclear power plant accident. No big deal, it was only the most impactful one in history. Now, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Zone of Alienation is closed to the public. It covers about 30 kilometers total and even 30 years after the accident, only about 100 people live in the city. There are just two shops and one hotel for any tourists. However, one can only go with one the Ukrainian government’s organized tours. Remember, this area is one of the most polluted in the world.

Yet, there are lots of areas where no one may enter. People assume this is where the Sacred Mirror resides. Legend goes the Sacred Mirror was forged by a Shinto deity, but most think the mirror got destroyed during a fire back in the 9th century.

Another mysterious area in Disneyworld is the very exclusive Disney club 33. Sure, everyone knows about it, but it’s invite-only to join unless you pay a very steep price. How much, you ask. A group of teenagers discovered the Grotte de Lascaux caves in 1940. These caves in Southern France are over 17,500 years old. Now, they’re a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within the caves, there are over 600 paintings on the ceilings and walls. People visited the caves even after WWII, but soon the tourists increased so rapidly to over 12000 visitors daily that the place was closed down out of fear of contamination. Hopefully, it will reopen soon since scientists are working to figure out a safe number of visitors for future visits.

Unfortunately, we cannot even tell you where Genghis Khan’s tomb is because it was kept secret without any burial markings. Since the king didn’t want to be disturbed at his final resting place, they made sure the tomb would be hidden. It’s rumored that the funeral party killed any people who passed by the place. Even Marco Polo, who spent time with Kublai Khan, Genghis’ grandson, noted that even the people in the Royal Court didn’t know where the great emperor had been laid to rest. Even though this palace was found in 2004, his tomb is still undiscovered.

Kentucky’s Fort Knox is where you can find the United States Bullion Depository. Within there’s a fortified vault that hold the nation’s treasures and gold reserves. Before you get any wild ideas…the vault is encased by layers of fencing and razor wire. Not to mention the armed guards, security cameras, electric fences and no big deal, but an entire army unit. Then at the end, there’s 21 inch thick of fire and drill resistant materials. You can visit Fort Knox but that vault…don’t even think about it.
