So, the inspiration for Sly? He watched the famous fight with Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner on March 24 of 1975. After three days, he had a finished script. Then he attempted to sell it to multiple studios and finally, after a huge budget cut and some negotiations about playing the lead role, he made a deal.
