The engineer didn’t purchase a home until much later in his life. In an interview with the Daily Mail, he explained that he didn’t want to get a mortgage since he felt that he would become financially restricted if he had one. When he did finally have enough money to buy a home, he had in mind a completely different idea. “I had stopped thinking in provincial terms and I had thought like a free bird engineer,” he said.
