Relationship With Pamela Courson
Back in 1965, Morrison met Pamela Courson while they were both studying in college. Allegedly, the two did obtain marriage licenses both in ’67 in Colorado and in LA a year after. Keyboardist Ray Manzareck called Pamela Courson, Morrison’s “other half,” while Morrison called her his “cosmic mate.” They were together for his entire adult life. However, it wasn’t until after death that the California probate court recognized their partnership as common-law marriage.

Estate Matters
Jim Morrison left everything to Pamela Courson. He listed her as the sole heir, despite being classified as an unmarried person. The lawsuits against the estate began after his death but were tied up for years. When Pamela Courson passed in 1974, her parents petitioned for Morrison’s estate. They claimed that the couple had what was seen as a common-law marriage. Her parents even got into legal battles with Jim Morrison’s parents until agreeing to split the earnings from Morrison’s estate evenly.
